The new Avril Lavigne album will be available "any day now" - it's available for pre-order on Amazon.com and the first single is already available for download from the iTunes music store.
Tom Green, the comedian who brought us the hilarious, if not highly unusual) Freddy Got Fingered has his own LIVE internet TV channel. If you have QuickTime Pro, you can easily sync Tom's Show to your iPod or PSP with MoviesForMyPod.
1. Purchase QuickTime Pro. 2. Download and install Windows Media Components for Macintosh. 3. Download and install MoviesForMyPod. 4. Bring up one of Tom's shows. From the menu in the bottom right corner of the player, choose "Save as QuickTime Movie". 5. Convert the saved movie into MPEG-4 or iPod format using MoviesForMyPod. 6. The video will be watermarked (but still watchable) unless you also purchase Flip4Mac WMV Player Pro.
NOTE: It looks like the archived shows are already converted to MPEG-4 format. Just go into the archives and click "download show". These files should play on the iPod "as is", use MoviesForMyPod to format it for PSP.

Gnarls Barkley | Lyrics | Crazy I remember when, I remember when I lost my mind There was something so present about that place Even your emotions have an echo in so much space
And when you're out there without care I was out of touch But it wasn't because I didn't know enough I just knew too much
Does that make me crazy Does that make me crazy Does that make me crazy Possibly
In all that you were having the time of your life But think twice That's my only advice Cmon now who do you who do you who do you think you are ha ha ha Bless your soul You really think you're in control
Well I think you're crazy I think you're crazy I think you're crazy Just like me
My heroes had the heart to live their lives out on a limb All I remember Was thinking I wanna be like them Ever since I was little Ever since I was little It looked like fun It was no coincidence I've come And I can die when I'm done

Velvet Underground (VU) is Dead (Long live the VU)!
Never forgotten, but highly influential are the Velvet Underground. Aside from the vast assortment of VU-influenced bands you've already heard of, try Katie the Pest (OC-based), Friends of Sound and last, but not least Kill Me Tomorrow.
Whoa! And while browsing for the lastest info on Friends of Sound, check out "Snow Machine". Two free MP3 songs, extremely well-encoded. Big sound!
This tutorial shows how easy it is to backup your iTunes "purchased music" for safekeeping, or to easily transfer your purchased songs to another Macintosh (or PC). The screenshots demonstrate backing up on the Macintosh with iTunes 6 and restoring on the PC with iTunes 6.

I enjoy Neil Young's music. I haven't checked out his new album quite yet. I haven't yet listened to all the Neil Young albums I have. Nevertheless, if you like Neil Young, you will also like "The Samples". Originally from Colorado, I believe they are HQ in Vermont now. They have a number of free MP3 downloads for iPod/PSP, including a new song, on their web site.
On a separate note...after trying a few other demo products...which never worked, I have found a utility called MoviesformyPod that works great for converting quicktime files to iPod compatible videos...
If you like listening to female singer songwriters, you will enjoy our Featured Artist, Heather Nova. I have her video "London Rain" on infinite repeat.
Personally, I find her writing to have an emotional intelligence/depth similar to other female artists such as Alanis/PJ Harvey/Liz Phair, but with a more poetic, understated approach. Compare "Walk this World" (Music Video) with some of Liz Phairs more sexyrotic material and you'll see what I mean.
She also has two new music videos on her www site at heathernova.com - and - they are in QuickTime format, which means, instant iPodding with MoviesForMyPod/PSP/Phone. All you have to do is follow the treasure trail to find the QuickTime movies...
The DualDisc [Edition] of Destiny's Child - #1's contains the full album -and- flip the disc over, and all the music videos. This disc is such a great value, I actually accidentally bought it 2x.
You can get the audio track list from Amazon.com. The DVD side of the DualDisc contains the following high-quality music videos:
1. Destiny's Child: no, no, no part 2 (feat wyclef jean) 2. Destiny's Child: say my name 3. Destiny's Child: survivor 4. Destiny's Child: bootylicious 5. Destiny's Child: independent women part 1 6. Destiny's Child: lose my breath 7. Destiny's Child: soldier 8. Destiny's Child: cater 2 u
This disc is the best example of how the music industry can be revitalized by combining video+audio together in one product.
The above tutorial will work with any protected or unprotected song from your iTunes library. Just use Audio Hijack with an iTunes session instead of a Safari session.
Joss Stone Video | You Had Me | Right to Be Wrong | Spoiled | Don't Cha Wanna Ride
The Bonus DVD in the [Special Edition] of Joss Stone - mind body soul (Amazon.com $24) contains the following, high quality music videos. I picked it up today at Circuit City for $20.99. I have been wanting to check out Joss Stone, but the bonus DVD pushed me over the edge - now I have a full album in ALAC quality plus 4 videos. To buy on iTunes, the entire collection would have been $27.
Videos on the DVD: 1. You Had Me 2. Right to Be Wrong 3. Spoiled 4. Don't Cha Wanna Ride
The word ”podcast” is a concatenation of the words iPod and broadcast. The underlying technology used for podcasts, called RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is capable of containing any type of media including audio, video, graphics, and more.
Podcasting is a way of publishing podcasts to the web, allowing people to subscribe to a podcast and receive new ”episodes” automatically through an RSS feed. Podcasting consists of publishing XML files which contain references to media (called “enclosures”) to a website. Podcast aggregators (often called “podcatchers”), then read these XML files and download all the linked enclosures.
Unlike terrestrial and Internet radio, podcasts are time-shifted, meaning that listeners have control over when and where they hear their favorite programming. And, the episodes are delivered automatically to a subscriber on iTunes so the latest updates are always readily available with no effort required by the listener.
Podcasts offer iTunes users and iPod owners the same freedom and level of control they are familiar with when listening to their own personal music collections.
Steps: 1. Transfer the DVD disc image to a folder on your hard drive using something like MTR. 2. Make sure that the QT MPEG-2 Playback - Mac OS X is installed.
3. With the QT MPEG-2 component installed, QuickTime can show you the contents of VOB files (DVD MPEG-2 movie files). 4. Find the VOB file containing the Music video you want to load on the iPod/DVD. 5. Use "MegaPEG Pro HD Demo (Beta)" to 'demux' the VOB file. Under File choose MPEG Tools/Demultiplex... and open the VOB file. Choose a destination folder for the demultiplexed .m2v and .aiff files. 6. Verify that QuickTime can play the .m2v file with .aiff audio by playing the .m2v movie in the Finder preview (see note below). 7. Use the .m2v file as the Source movie in MoviesForMyPod/PSP.
TECHNICAL NOTE: The .m2v file and the associated .AIFF audio track must both have the same 'base' file name (For example Music_Video.m2v + Music_Video.AIFF). When the files are named in this way, QuickTime will automagically use the AIFF file as the audio track for the .m2v file. After demux, it will look like this:
Posted some samples generated with MoviesForMyPod/PSP using the universal iPod+PSP conversion template which creates a single movie file which plays/syncs to both the Video iPod and the Sony PSP.
Ten of Mariah's early videos hits are available on the Mariah Carey: #1s DVD. Ten videos for $12.99. That's 1.29 per video (compare to $1.99 if/when they become available on iTunes - plus, you can both play them in your DVD player and convert them to your iPod.
These are the videos on the DVD: 1. Heartbreaker (Feat. Jay Z) 2. My All 3. Honey 4. Always Be My Baby 5. One Sweet Day (Feat. Boyz 2 Men) 6. Fantasy (Feat. O.D.B.) 7. Dreamlover 8. Emotions 9. I Don't Wanna Cry 10. Heartbreaker Remix (Feat. Missy Elliot & Da Brat)
This version of the RiHanna SOS video is ot only a music video, but also a hip-hop dance lesson. Very cool. Unfortunately, not for your iPod. If you want it for your iPod, and you have a Mac, you can use the utility "SnapZ Pro" to grab anything on your screen, including this Flash video. As far as the audio goes, WireTap should be able to take care of that. If you try it and have a report, post a comment...
Also, if you are looking for the official video, it is not yet released, but you can pre-order the SOS CD-Single [enhanced] including video. Unless this is an oddball disc, the video will be in QuickTime format and can be easily converted for your Video iPod using MoviesForMyPod (UPDATE: I just ordered this disc as it is available through some of Amazon.com's partners - will keep you informed).
Also, on the lookout for RiHanna, try these internet searches:
I never saw the original American Idol, but after reading the biography for Kelly Clarkson on iTunes , I wish I had.
Here's her new video courtesy of utube:
UPDATE: Looks like the video has been pulled from youtube. Not to worry, youtube usually features a lot of duplicated content which you can sift through with this kelly clarkson search
American Idol is interesting because it is a type of meritocracy.
Do you like Toad the Wet Sprocket? If so, you may also like Boris Smile. The iTunes Music Store is great, but it only represents about 1/1000th of the music in this world.
It's fascinating to watch Amazon.com's price fluctuation on what I consider to be the best iPod earbuds. Before Christmas, they were $26. Last week, $36. This week, back down to $28.
For other earbuds that didn't make the cut, see my earlier post about ipod earbud comparison.
UPDATED 2006.05.04: After accidentally stepping on a pair of black ones (I owned 3 pairs), I broke down and paid a bit extra for some white ones that match my video iPod. I just queued up Joss Stone (which I ripped in Apple Lossless - ALAC) on my Intel iMac and they sounds great!
UPDATED 2006.05.26: They sell these white Sony headphones in the Apple Store in Manhattan Beach, CA!
Awhile back, a 1G (original) iPod I was using developed a crackling/intermittent audio problem in the headphone socket. In the beginning, it simply crackled. Eventually the sound in one of the ears disappeared altogether. I sent it to ipodresq.com, and they made it work 'as good as new'. Highly recommended.
I posted my earbud recommendations about two weeks ago. I just noticed that my current Sony's were getting a bit tired, so I bought one pair of each of my recommendations. The joke's on me - Amazon raised the price on the better earbuds just after Christmas. Cost an extra $5.
Gen Kiyooka at Digigami has released MoviesForMyPod. This application creates .m4v and .mov files, can batch process, and has watch folder capabilities. If you have ever had problems getting your .mov files to sync with your iPod 5g, this app does the job! One click conversion was never so Sa-Weet!
When I first released MoviesForMyPod, I picked the name MovieToGo because I did a google search on the term and it came up with only 3 pages. Unfortunately, Google's wordstemming algorithm did not break down the word cluster in order to find this ipod sync for movie showtimes program. Later, when I found out about it, I immediately changed the name of our software. So here's a hello to the REAL MovieToGo, which looks like a cool program.
I've personally auditioned (and when I say auditioned, I mean actually used each model for at least a week with my own music listening) a wide range of earbuds including models that cost $300-$500. I have a fairly good background in pro-audio/music engineering, so I'm pretty picky when it comes to good sounding audio.
Personally, the standard iPod earbuds don't do it for me. Curiously, the iPod D/A converters which drive the earbuds are actually very high fidelity, so your iPod will sound much better if you would pair it with some good earbuds. In fact, the iPod D/A puts to shame the PowerBook G4 headphone output quality.
If you know someone is getting an iPod for christmas, and you want to put something significant into their stocking, get them these, and they will feel the love.
Highly recommended (I'm using them now).
Other earbuds I have tried in my quest for favorites: Etymotic - found them prone to clogging with earwax and lacking bass response. High-frequency response is stunning, however. Shure e2c - did not find the sound particularly good, and had a hard time getting them to stay in my ears. Shure e3c - same basic complaints as Shure e2c.
Flip4Mac WMV Player Pro from Telestream is a set of QuickTime components (read:plug-ins) that makes .WMV files into a QuickTime native codec. Adds .wmv support MoviesForMyPod, iMovie, Final Cut etc etc.
Converting widescreen material for use on the iPod is fairly easy. The easiest method is to simply use the H.264 encoding preset, which applies widescreen automagically. If you want to use MPEG-4, choose custom, and convert with 320x180 as the target frame size. Then, make sure that the iPod Video Settings (/Video/Video Settings/Widescreen) is set to ON.
Your movies should then play in Widescreen (letterbox).
A popular question for technical support is 'my movie has no sound - help!'.
If your source movie file is an MPEG-1 file (.mpg file extension), first create a QuickTime movie using MPEGStreamClip (free), and then convert with MoviesForMyPod. Or, try using Podner ($10).
If your source movie file is a DivX AVI file, try running the file through DiVX Doctor before processing with MoviesForMyPod.
Digigami MoviesForMyPod is the easiest and fastest (more throughput) way to convert your existing QuickTime video files into 5G iPod format (H.264 320x240, MPEG-4 320x240).
Free - nothing more to buy.
Does not require QuickTime Pro.
CPU-friendly background batch conversion
Quick and easy preset templates plus custom MPEG-4 settings.
'Watched Folder' for remote/unattended batch submission.
