MPEG-2 ENCODER: Build a 1080i Template for Driving HD Plasma Displays
MegaPEG Pro HD is used by many people to encode HD MPEG-2 files for 1080p display on plasma screens. Most hardware calls for 1080i, but my suggestion is to de-interlace and although the stream will be 1080i compliant, it actually will be coded as progressive for increased spatial resolution and visual quality.
On the TEMPLATE TAB:
Start with the HDV 1440x1080i template (DOUBLE CLICK IT)
If you can afford the encoding time, I recommend "Best" for 1080p and "Best (Fields)" for 1080i,
this is what I use when encoding on my G5. On my powerbook, I use Fast and Good for HD.
Choose Full-Pel from the Precision box.
On the VIDEO TAB:
Change the MPEG-X: setting to "MPEG-2 MP@HL"
Change the field dominance to "Top First"
Change the width to 1920. BTW, you can probably encode at 1440 for faster encodes. MPEG does an anamorphic squeeze.
If de-interlacing, then under More MPEG-2 Options choose "dct_type: frame_dct(Progressive)"
On the PROCESS TAB:
Under "Movie Image Processing", Choose "Deinterlace Blend Fields TypeA"
