MPEG-2 ENCODER: MegaPEG HDTV Samples
I've just finished encoding some test clips for a customer who wanted HDTV CBR MPEG-2 bitstreams at 1920x1080i. Using the Presets in MegaPEG HDTV, I created a 1080i 29.97 file from a 1080p 24fps source using a time-resample.
Next, I employed our 2:3 pulldown flag insertion to use the same source, encode at 1080i but with an effective frame rate of 23.976 plus pulldown to yield 29.97 frame rate.
And finally, I did a 720p sample at 23.976 x 2:3 pulldown = 29.97 just for fun.
These are MPEG-2 Constant Bitrate Program streams encoded with our single pass MPEG-2 encoder. The 720p encodes ran about 20:1 on a modern G5 at 'Best Quality'.
The files are located here:

For kicks, I plan to run VBR encodes of the same material to demonstrate that our MPEG-2 encoder can kick down into those low bitrates just like our HD MPEG-1 encoder.
